I highly doubt this is all uniquely new code. I have to imagine they built the VR version of this game off of the original.
Green hell multiplayer code#
(Though that's MUCH more limited due to lack of power in their outdated hardware) All require different code to run on their specific platforms.Ģ games on the same platform should be an easier task than that is.
Green hell multiplayer series#
Different platforms like PC/PS4/PS5/Xox One/Xbox series X and even Nintendo Switch. Cross Platform is a thing, Games like Rocket League, and well hell, most any current generation multiplayer games are cross platform. (He'll, I would have even settled for paid DLC if it meant I could have played with my friends in "pancake mode"Ĭall it entitled all you want.
Green hell multiplayer update#
This alone to me makes it seel like the devs were just out to make extra money by selling people 2 copies of the same game, instead of going with the labor of love approach and providing VR via an update to their original game.

Green hell multiplayer mod#
I'll stick with games like The Forest (Devs implemented this into their original game) and Valheim VR (Via a mod created by fans at that) that offer the experiences I am looking for without 1, having to buy the game for a second time, and 2 being able to play the game with my friends while I am in VR and they are not. I have no intentions of paying for something I can't play with friends. Your loss I guessĪnyway, you'll do what you want But you'll be missing out on something quite unique, challenging and fun. Just because your vision from a marketing aspect might make sense, doesn't mean it's possible form a development perspective.Īnyway, you'll do what you want But you'll be missing out on something quite unique, challenging and fun. I don't think you fully appreciate how complicated it probably is to achieve cross-play when both games were developed independently of each other. Add to that the very reasonable amount of money they are asking for, (for the bundle edition too) and there's really no reason to be complaining.īesides, cross-play is usually requiring identical code between clients. It's different (not as beautiful because of the constraints of VR) but it offers plenty of bang for your buck alongside vanilla, which in turn offers plenty of content and better graphics, with an easier-to-play control system. The VR rendition is actually a lot of fun. All it achieves is letting people think that you are the type of gamer that feels entitled to what they demand. Making threats that you won't buy it because of it's absence isn't going to change anything. It's not ideal, but cross-play is not available for many, many games.

Cross-pollination would only help this game thrive more as it gives people more of a reason to buy it. It makes so little sense to not have it cross-compatible with their "pancake" version of the game. This decision has cost them at least one sale, and maybe even more. I like games like this with friends, and none of them have VR, but a couple of them do own the non-VR version of this game. Originally posted by Kirkyeehee:Them making this decision is the sole reason I won't be buying this game even though I want to play it. Let's be honest here it's your scenario that is extremely niche, not the other way around, with the three people you mentioned being the ones that couldn't multi-play between VR and vanilla. That way it meets a good compromise between both development houses being able to make a small profit, while providing a choice.Īlso, I'd love to see your source for declaring it will only have 3 players left if they don't let you have both versions in one game for your cross-play situation.

Almost certainly that's why they are selling the vanilla and VR version in a bundle, with a discount. Splitting the game between VR and non VR so you have to buy both is stupid too.Īnd right now it doesn't even feature multiplayer. The Forest was such a blast to play with 2 friends who don't own VR while i own VR, and making Green Hell a stand alone VR game with no crossplay between NonVR and VR will diminish the playerbase within 2 weeks to like 3 people.
